A very warm welcome to the Tunbridge Wells Climate and Nature Coalition (TWCAN coalition)!

It’s great that you’ve found us! Here’s a little bit about what the coalition is, what we’ve done already, our plans for the future and how you can get involved.
What is the TWCAN coalition?
The coalition was founded at the beginning of 2024 when three local groups concerned about the nature and climate crises decided that we would have a much stronger voice if we worked together. And that’s what we’ve been doing ever since!
Our aim is ‘to raise awareness of the impacts of the climate and nature crises and to work with all appropriate parties to ensure that necessary urgent steps are taken to reduce their impacts’
What has TWCANC done?
- Tunbridge Wells Climate and Nature Fair 2025 and 2026: We played a major part in putting on the first ever Climate and Nature Fair in Tunbridge Wells in September 2025 and have a similar role in the upcoming fair on 3rd May 2026.
- Sale of TW Commons: We have supported the Friends of The Commons in their campaign for the Commons to be owned by the public.
- The World We Want: We hosted this excellent talk and Q & A at The Forum with 100 people attending.
- Expanded and grown! We are close to welcoming our 10th member organisation, meaning that we will have an ever stronger voice.
- Lobbying the council: We arranged a mass meeting of our members with the council to urge them to strengthen both their climate startegy and draft strategic plan. The revised documents were significantly strengthened.
Plans for the future
- Community/ Climate and Nature Hub in Tunbridge Wells: We are currently in negotiations to establish a permanent physical space for a community hub with activities, support and advice for members of the public on sustainability as well as other community needs.
- National Emergency Briefing: We are planning to screen a condensed version of this extremely important briefing in which eight leading experts laid out the severity of the crises to politicians and other influential people. As always, our aim will be to consider what we can do to tackle the situation.
What can I do?
- Join a group: The most effective thing you can do is to join one of the groups that make up our coalition and get involved. If you’re still reading this, we’re sure that at least one of the groups will be of interest to you!
